The name of Cheffins has been synonymous with the fascinating world of auctioneering in the Cambridge area for a very long time – with archives of auctioneers’ sales books dating back to 1825. Some Cambridge residents may also remember that on the current site, on the corner of Cherry Hinton Road and Hills Road, there actually stood a cattle market – once owned and run by Cheffins.

Today, Cheffins Fine Art Auctioneers occupies a modern building containing two sales rooms which hold regular sales throughout the year. These range from antiques and interiors and art and design from 1860 to specialist books, maps and prints, fine art and fine wines.

You can find a calendar of when these sales are happening on their website which also contains a lot of really useful details about viewing and the sales themselves.

Beautifully produced, full-colour catalogues are available containing hundreds of wonderful photographs of the items coming up for auction.
The main auction room itself is very atmospheric and, on the day of a sale, becomes almost theatrical! But if you can’t physically get to a sale, Cheffins now offers online live bidding through its own website as well as other commercial auction sites.

If your interest is in selling, as one of the UK’s leading auctioneers, Cheffins’ specialists cover the whole of the country – advising on single pieces through to entire collections. Every Tuesday between 11am and 3pm their valuers are on-site and on-hand at the Cambridge sales rooms to offer free verbal valuations.
