Explore Independent Cambridge: foodPark

With the help of Independent Cambridge - the definitive guide to ‘real’ Cambridge - Cambridge Network continues its weekly exploration of the best independent shops, cafés, restaurants, venues and events in Cambridge and the surrounding area. This week: foodPark, the local collective of street food traders.

It was her first taste of a classic American-styled burger, served from a red vintage Citroen van back in 2012, that inspired local food blogger Heidi White to form foodPark – a collective of top-quality, local street food traders, parking up around the city to satisfy the cravings of the people of Cambridge.

Keen to share her love of fantastic food, cooked to perfection, using locally-sourced, high- quality ingredients and inspired by the likes of KERB at King’s Cross in London, Heidi searched for suitable street food sites. She eventually approached the developers of CB1 on Station Road about using their land at lunch-times for a weekly street food pop-up.

Forming a collective at the same time meant she had a great selection of traders, ready to go and all with the same shared goal of bringing good, affordable food to the streets.Since pitching up at CB1, foodPark’s popularity has grown and now serves up foodPark Go West – at  the West Cambridge University Campus, off Madingley Road, foodPark CSP at the Cambridge Science Park off Milton Road and foodPark Saturdays outside The Blue Moon in Norfolk Street, and the line-up of traders has grown along with its following.

The most up to date list can be found on the website and offers an amazing variety from authentic Austrian schnitzels, Swiss potato Rosti, vibrant vegetarian street food, Artisan ciabbata, wood-fired pizzas, Asian street food and buffalo wings through to churros, healthy juices and smoothies, ice cream and craft coffee.

Building on the success of the day time markets, foodPark holds hugely popular night markets throughout the year. Tickets for these events literally sell like hotcakes so it’s best to sign up to the mailing list to be in with a chance of a ticket.

NB This Saturday's (May 21) NIGHT MARKET has already sold out!
