Explore Independent Cambridge - Knitting Needle Lane

With the help of Independent Cambridge - the community of ‘real’ Cambridge - Cambridge Network continues its weekly exploration of the best independent shops, cafés, restaurants, venues and events in Cambridge and the surrounding area. This week: Knitting Needle Lane.

Although already busy running a local business, when her favourite local knitting shop closed, Cambridge resident Camilla Carter felt inspired to provide other knitting fans with the knitting and crocheting supplies they would need to carry on enjoying their hobby. Camilla herself learned to knit aged seven, and now aims to provide a modern take on knitting with traditional tools – thus Knitting Needle Lane was created.

After many hours of carefully cataloguing and uploading items, Knitting Needle Lane’s online shop now offers a fantastic range of knitting goodies. Yarns range from soft Alpaca, baby, classic and chunky through to beautiful Merino and rainbow yarns. There’s sections too for accessories, books and patterns, knitting needles and crochet hooks plus some great gift ideas to treat the knitting fan in your life!

As well as the online shop, Camilla is keen to share her passion directly with others and so if you fancy a chat or have a question, or just want to browse through the range of supplies Camilla has brought together, then head to the main market in the centre of Cambridge on a Sunday where you will find the colourful Knitting Needle Lane stall.

Finally, you can also purchase Knitting Needle Lane wool from local haberdashery shop Sewing Daze in Witchford, as Camilla joins forces with this local indie.
