Explore Independent Cambridge: La Raza

With the help of Independent Cambridge - the definitive guide to ‘real’ Cambridge - Cambridge Network continues its weekly exploration of the best independent shops, cafés, restaurants, venues and events in Cambridge and the surrounding area. This week: the hidden gem which is La Raza.

Having first opened its doors in 2003, La Raza exudes all that is fabulous – food, drink and entertainment, all encompassed under one roof.

Voted ‘Best Bar’ in the 2015 Cambridgeshire Food and Drink Awards and set in the middle of beautiful Rose Crescent, La Raza brings fun and sophistication to the very heart of the city.

Opening every day, the restaurant and bar slowly transforms throughout the day. Starting with lunch, there is a delicious Mediterranean menu of tapas and salads, fish dishes and paellas. Complemented by a glass of wine from the well-sourced list, what better way to spend a relaxed, comfortable time whether you choose to eat inside or outside on the bustling Rose Crescent?

Barista coffees are served all day, which creates a smooth transition into the evening. The bar is open for aperitifs and a delicious range of award-winning, hand-crafted cocktails (they even have their very own gin blend called LaRaza01), followed by dinner – food to share, hot and cold dishes and a great selection for vegetarians.

Then, at 10pm, the bar goes through its final transition of the day as the music begins to play.  La Raza is known as a great place for post-dinner dancing. There are live bands every week with regulars such as Booga’s Electric Sauce and Swagger, guaranteed to get the crowd swinging.

Wednesday nights are acoustic nights and running alongside DJ events, jazz evenings and The Early Night club, there is always an event for everyone at this versatile venue. Truly one of Cambridge’s hidden gems.
