Explore Independent Cambridge - Stapleford Granary

01-04-2019

With the help of Independent Cambridge - the community of ‘real’ Cambridge - Cambridge Network continues its weekly exploration of the best independent shops, cafés, restaurants, people, businesses, venues and events in Cambridge and the surrounding area. This week: Stapleford Granary.

Set in a sweeping rural landscape, the converted farm buildings of the long-derelict Bury Farm in Stapleford are home to the ACE Foundation (The Association for Cultural Exchange). Providing a beautiful arts and music study centre, The Granary now boasts its own 120 seat recital hall, ensemble room, art studio and workshop.

Purchased by the Foundation in 2009, the first phase of the building works saw life brought to the beautiful 19th century farm buildings. In Spring 2018, Phase 2 of the work was completed – providing further areas for music and art education, as well as increased capacity for the Granary Hall, new gallery spaces, a foyer bar, outside terrace and additional parking.

As Stapleford Granary continues to grow, so does the range of activities and calibre of artists and musicians it attracts. Music courses such as the Youth String Orchestra, Folk Ensemble, Flute Choir and Come and Sing, help provide a range of activities for professionals and novices alike, while the well-equipped art studio is home to a range of art courses, masterclasses and one-off workshops.

Alongside educational courses, the programme of concerts, lectures and events offers a remarkable experience for audiences – not only due to the quality of artist and events, but also to the wonderful intimacy of the Hall itself.
