Collaboration between Sentec and SELEX Galileo makes low voltage monitoring a reality
GridKey is pleased to announce the first production delivery of its innovative LV network monitoring system to Electricity North West (ENW). ENW will be installing GridKey systems in one hundred substations as part of a Low Carbon Network Fund project.
GridKey is an innovative low voltage substation monitoring system created by the collaboration of SELEX Galileo, experts in the design, development and manufacture of a wide range of sensor and data exploitation systems and Sentec, the smart grid and metering technology specialists. It provides continuous remote monitoring of the substations and can be rapidly fitted without interrupting supply to customers. As a result, Distribution Network Operators (DNOs) can expect significantly increased knowledge of the state of their LV grid and better management of network and maintenance.
Dan Randles, Technology Development Manager at ENW, commented, “We were really impressed with the GridKey system which was clearly designed for this purpose, and the GridKey team who have responded to our requirements. GridKey will provide real benefits, enabling us to proactively manage and plan based on real information rather than reacting to issues as they arise.”
Paul Beck, VP of Advanced Projects and representing GridKey for SELEX Galileo, said, “We are delighted to have delivered the first production systems. We have worked with Electricity North West and other distribution companies to include many improvements as a result of pre-production trials, and it has been a highly productive and truly collaborative effort.”
Mike Kirk, GridKey Business Manager for Sentec, added, “The GridKey system will provide major benefits in asset monitoring and network management for DNOs. We have worked closely with our customers to develop a product tailored for this application and this has resulted in a class-leading system, and is a step towards the Smart Grid of the future.”
GridKey is a substation monitoring system designed specifically for the application and enables DNOs to make high quality network management decisions based on accurate and detailed information in a cost effective package. The ‘fit and forget’ system can be fitted to live cables, is quick and easy to install with no calibration, retro-fitable and is suitable for the majority of installations.
GridKey combines the metrology and current sensor expertise of Sentec with the design, manufacturing and system integration expertise of SELEX Galileo. Together they provide a responsive service, resulting in a product that meets customer needs.
