Staff at law firm Hewitsons will swap their suits for lycra to complete a gruelling two-day charity bike ride.

Team members from across the business will cycle between all four of the firm’s offices – a total of around 150 miles – for the inaugural ‘Tour de Hewitsons’ event.

The group of 13 employees – including partners, solicitors and personal assistants – will set off from Hewitsons’ London office, in Blackfriars, after the morning rush hour on April 6.

For the first leg of their demanding journey, the cyclists will pedal 77 miles to the firm’s Milton Keynes office, in Midsummer Boulevard, travelling in two teams – one experienced, the other not as experienced.

After enjoying a well-earned pub break and spending the night in Stony Stratford, in North Bucks, the riders will head towards Hewitsons’ Northampton office, in Billing Road, covering another 17 miles.

They aim to arrive their final stop, the firm’s Cambridge office, in Newmarket Road, that evening, after completing the last 57 miles.

The law firm is aiming to raise at least £3,000 for Veterans Aid, a client of the firm.

The 85-year-old national charity helps former servicemen and women in crisis with everything from finding a home and employment to tackling addiction and securing a visa.

Organiser Edward Wheen at Hewitson Moorhead, who will be among those taking part, said: “We chose Veterans Aid not only for the amazing work they do, but also because a number of staff have relatives who either have served or still serve with the military.

“Everyone taking part is really eager for the challenge. It’s definitely not going to be easy, but it will be worth it to support such a great cause. We might have to bring crutches in to meetings for about a week afterwards though.”

Dr Hugh Milroy, CEO of Veterans Aid, said: “As ever, I am stunned by the lengths people are prepared to go to raise awareness of our work, as well as the income necessary for us to fund it.

“The £600 that Hewitsons gave us last May was immediately put to good use. Typically, we spend around £814 on training for clients to get ‘job ready’ again, so it’s fair to say that they have already helped us change a life.

“We’ll be cheering them all on as they embark on this impressive cycle challenge, and we hope people who pass them along the way will give them support and encouragement.”
