Marconi job fears

More job cuts could be on the way at Marconi in Cambridge after the troubled telecoms giant announced plans to axe a further 1,000 jobs in the UK.

The company, which has offices on Cambridge Business Park in Cowley Road and Bar Hill, is axing 4,000 jobs worldwide.

The number of jobs being cut in Cambridge, if any, has not yet been announced. Marconi employs around 300 research staff in the city.

In September 2000, the firm doubled its workforce in Cambridge when it opened a new research facility.
