MM Wealth give their support to Nepalese Orphanage

CPS Orphanage, Nepal is a very small charity caring for children aged between 6 and 17. It is managed by a Nepali couple, Bharat and Anjana who provide the children with a warm, loving and nurturing environment, good education and the support they need to transition into adulthood.

MM Wealth give their support to Nepalese Orphanage

CPS Orphanage is completely reliant on donations. 100% of all funds go directly to the children and the running of the orphanage. No funds are spent on advertising or administration costs and all our visits are self-funded.

In 2003 Bharat KC, a local Nepali, established the CPS Orphanage with 6 children. Unfortunately, the Nepali Government does not provide any financial assistance to charities; it makes running an orphanage very difficult.

A close friend and now Trustee, Julia Adams became aware of the orphanage when she visited a friend in Kathmandu in 2004 and saw the basic living conditions. The children slept on a 5’x5’ piece of plywood without any bedding and just the clothes they stood up in.

The children didn’t attend school and had no access to medical care. They lived on a very simple diet of rice and Dahl.

Julia found the visit really upsetting and on returning home to the UK decided to do something about it. This is the point at which I became involved. We started fundraising and the first thing we did was to buy bunk beds for the children.

In 2005 Julia returned to Kathmandu and I accompanied her. After speaking with Bharat it was apparent that the children’s regular bouts of sickness and diarrhoea was due to drinking water from the local well. We therefore purchased a £20 water filtration system, and this instantly solved the problem.

In 2010, the Charity ‘CPS Nepal Orphanage’ was officially registered as a UK Charity by Trustees Julia Adams, Jan Hall and myself, Karen Chamberlain.

Since our first visit the Orphanage continues to evolve. We now have 24 children who are in full time education and have access to medical and dental care. We’ve also worked hard to educate them on hygiene and provide a healthy, well-balanced diet.

At the age of 16 the children can opt to do a technical training course or study for their +2 (similar to A levels). This enables them to qualify for a better job.

Our biggest achievement is that the orphanage continues to be run as ‘one big family’ and not as an institution.

We feel very fortunate to have received support from MM Wealth over the years. Their generous donation funded an Olympic themed picnic for the children as well as individual staff donations which provided drinks bottles and essential personal items for the children.

Myself and Alli Bode will be visiting the orphanage for our annual visit in October 2022.

Thank you for taking the time to read about the CPS family. If you are interested in donating, please see our website: www.cpsnepal.co.uk for further information.
