Peer learning will benefit new managers

Are you new to a management role or about to take on management responsibilities? Boost your confidence through collaboration with like-minded people in Cambridge Network's New Managers peer learning group - the newest cohort begins on Wednesday 3rd October.

Bringing together managers who are new to the role of managing people, the CPD-accredited programme (21 CPD points) comprises five sessions over the course of five months and is a natural progression for those who have completed Cambridge Network's Learning Collaboration Transition to Management course.

One delegate commented: “Participating in the Peer Learning Group allowed us to take a look at our current management approaches and appraise them in a positive, supportive environment. We built on our existing knowledge through the use of a combination of management models and our own experiences to develop as managers. The facilitator was both thoughtful and challenging, and we covered ground that has really allowed me to grow into my current role. Participating in the group has armed me with the knowledge to face future challenges with confidence in my abilities. I can’t recommend the course enough for anyone who has recently become a manager and is looking for additional support and learning opportunities."

Topics are chosen by the group but in the past have included site visits and tours of member companies as well as covering issues such as:

  • How to manage (or be managed by) people remotely or across borders
  • How to manage high/low performers
  • Basic employment law, including how and when to take disciplinary action
  • How to conduct interviews for effective recruitment
  • Mentoring
  • How to provide effective feedback to senior managers
  • Techniques for influencing and persuasion.

The group is expertly facilitated by Development Group International, who have run management courses throughout Cambridge and for Cambridge Network for many years. Joining will enable you to network face to face with your peers across different industries and business sectors as well as to benefit from blended learning resources (including books, videos and online learning).

How to book:

The programme costs £850 +VAT per person (special members' rate) and booking is by email. Please contact Louise Rushworth to register your interest in attending or to find out more. We will also run a waiting list if you cannot make the next date.
