This evocative black and white image is the winner of ‘Picture This 2019’ – the Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE) East of England photograph competition.
Photograph of Luton DART excavation work wins £250
It was taken by Paul Baralos and shows excavation work for the Central Terminal Station. For the technically minded It was taken with a Leica M9 + Voigtlander 12mm f/5.6.
Luton DART (Direct Air Rail Transit) is a planned automated guided people mover from Luton Airport Parkway station to Luton Airport scheduled to open in 2021.
‘Picture This’ started in 2008 and every year seeks images that show what civil engineering is about. It is not a competition about photography skills - though of course it helps.
The Runner Up picture is of London Gateway Port, Essex “on a bright winter’s morning”. It was taken by Andrew Bowen who receives £100. He was a previous ‘Picture This’ winner in 2014.
