Police campaign targets speeding drivers

Speeding drivers are the target of a new campaign by police in the Cambridgeshire villages of Oakington and Longstanton.

Officers will be patrolling in direct response to complaints from members of the public.

Pc Steve Mumford, the community beat officer for Longstanton said they were concerned by the number of drivers blatantly flouting the law.

He said: 'There are irresponsible drivers who repeatedly ignore speed limits and roadside traffic signs but those signs are there for a reason - safety.

'We hope this campaign will not only get drivers to think about their use of speed in the short term, but educate them in the long term.'
