Funding approved for Alconbury Enterprise Campus southern access road

The Chief Secretary to the Treasury, Danny Alexander MP, has announced that an allocation of £4.6m from the Local Infrastructure Funding has been awarded to Alconbury Enterprise Campus. The funding will be to build a southern access road connecting the Alconbury Enterprise Zone with Huntingdon, and will play a key role in unlocking development potential and providing access routes and transport to the Enterprise Zone.

Alconbury Enterprise Campus lies at the heart of the high quality low carbon development of Alconbury Weald and offers flexible bespoke space for businesses.  The Campus provides 150 hectares of mixed use employment land with an emphasis on High Value advanced manufacturing activity. Urban&Civic, the site’s owners, are investing long term in the redevelopment of the site and the introduction of highly sustainable infrastructure.  Work has already begun on the Enterprise Zone with construction of a flagship Incubator Unit offering flexible space for small and start up businesses.  A 100 per cent business rate discount worth up to £275,000 over a five year period is one of the benefits for companies moving onto the Enterprise Zone.

Grahame Nix, Chair of the Greater Cambridge Greater Peterborough Local Enterprise Partnership said: “Alconbury Enterprise Zone is one of the most significant new developments in the country, offering space for businesses to move and grow at the heart of our LEP area, close to Cambridge and Peterborough with excellent transport links across the whole of the UK and beyond.

“Confirmation today that the Southern Access Road has been successful in its bid for funding is therefore fantastic news. The road is an important part of the infrastructure required on site, and will help to open up employment land sooner than would have otherwise been possible. It is also a vital link to the proposed new railway station, a key economic driver for the development. We look forward to seeing the work starting onsite later this year.”

Nick Guyatt, Deputy Executive Leader of Huntingdonshire District Council, said: “This is really good news for the Enterprise Zone and for Huntingdonshire as this funding will bring forward the Enterprise Zone, and will play a key role in securing future development.”
