New business advisor appointed to spearhead cleantech company growth

Dr Roger Thornton, while continuing his main job as Consultant Director - Hybrid & Electric Systems at Ricardo in Cambridge, has now started working for Cambridge Cleantech on a part time basis to spearhead the growth of companies in the cleantech sector.

Having worked with a number of the major technical consultancies in the Cambridge area including PA Technology and The Technology Partnership, he has a strong track record of turning new ideas and concepts into practical solutions and real products.

Roger Thornton comments: “I am looking forward to using my experience, gained both in the cleantech sector and other industries, to help deliver the new Growth Business Support programme for Cambridge Cleantech. The members base is dynamic and growing, and this programme offers a great opportunity for the cleantech sector in Cambridge.”

Martin Garratt, CEO of Cambridge Cleantech, comments: "We are delighted that Dr Roger Thornton has agreed to provide his valuable experience and time to support the growth of the myriad of cleantech companies in the region.

"Cambridge Cleantech now has nearly 300 members and the many innovative smaller scale companies are desperate to grow but need the invaluable advice that Roger can provide, following his many years at the sharp end of technology consultancy. This is the kind of support that growing businesses most need but are rarely able to afford and we are delighted that Roger has agreed to join our team and help our members”

Cambridge Cleantech is committed to providing business support services to its members who are involved in the early-stages of development. The two main strands to this member support are:

  • Start-Up & Emerging Cleantech Company Business Advice through up to 12 hours of free business support. This support is tailored to individual cleantech company needs. They are supported on a 1-2-1 basis by Paul Hughes. Frequent areas of support include business & financial planning, strategy development,  and preparing for fundraising.

  • Growing Cleantech Company Business Advice through up to 12 hours of free business support. This service is focused on technical and commercial readiness, market opportunity and growth opportunities and will be headed up by Dr. Thornton

Dr. Roger Thornton has extensive technical experience in developing a broad range of products and processes for transport, industrial, medical and consumer applications and so has a wealth of experience in managing the delivery of complex multi-disciplinary technology driven programmes.
