Combining Wilderness magazine’s access to local knowledge and expertise about the best place to go out on tramping (hiking) trips and ViewRanger's advanced digital trails publishing platform, means that each month Wilderness Wild Trips described in the magazine can be viewed and downloaded to the reader’s Apple, Android, or Symbian smartphone or tablet for free. Once installed, the mapped trail and description are stored ready to be used on the trail, with or without cell signal, with the ViewRanger app’s comprehensive GPS navigation tools.The Wilderness Wild Trips can also be browsed, viewed, and commented on, within ViewRanger’s web-based trip planning website and social community.
ViewRanger also publishes topographic mapping for New Zealand from the national geosciences agency LINZ, that provide the full terrain detail - these maps are also stored for offline use, and can be combined with the Wilderness Wild Trips.
From today, users can access over 140 Wilderness Wild Trips from all across New Zealand directly to their mobile, and each month new trips will be added to coincide with publication within the print edition of the magazine.
The tie-up follows similar deals with other leading consumer activity publications including TRAIL magazine in the UK, WANDER magazine in Germany, and Walking World Ireland magazine. All together, more than 400 brands have trail guide content available through ViewRanger’s open digital content marketplace, along with thousands of local experts and community generated trail guides.
