Tame your computer - Memo magic

In her regular series for Cambridge Network members, software training expert Karen Roem offers handy tips to help you 'Tame your computer'. This week she describes how to Apply text formatting to a Memo field (Access 2007-2010)...

Have you ever had the need to type more than 255 characters in an Access field, because it contains a description or comments? Well, you might be aware that if you use a Memo field, you can enter 65,536 characters.

But did you know that you can take it a step further and apply text formatting, such as bold, italic and underline, to a Memo field, so that you can make the text easier to read or put emphasis on certain words?

Here's how:

1.       Open the table in Design view.

2.       Click in the Field Name column of the Memo field.

3.       In the lower section (field properties) of the window, double-click the Text Format option (set is Plain Text), which will select Rich Text.

With thanks to Heiko Nathues for the inspiration!
