Danish day opens up business opportunities between UK and Denmark

The Danish Ambassador to the UK, Her Excellency Anne Hedensted Steffensen, opened a special “Danish Innovation in Business” event at The Møller Centre. Danish businesses experienced seminars from both academic and industry speakers around the topic of “Innovation”.

As the world experiences a global economic downturn, it is even more important that businesses are innovative to survive in tough times. Industry speakers included members from Carl Hansen & Søn and PP Møbler who gave inspirational talks on how their businesses have innovated and grown over the years in the production of high quality furniture.

The day opened up opportunities to bring the Danish community together under one roof at The Møller Centre designed by Danish architect, Henning Larsen. The Møller Centre was established 20 years ago by a generous donation to ChurchillCollegeby the A.P. Møller & Chastine Mc-Kinney Møller Foundation, and was formally opened on the 2nd October 1992 by Queen Ingrid ofDenmark.

Delegates were also given a private viewing of the “Chairs by Wegner” exhibition at Churchill College organised by College Fellow, Barry Phipps.  Hans J. Wegner was truly innovative in his design of furniture, and Marianne Wegner (daughter to Hans J. Wegner) travelled from Denmark to support this event, which showcased some of the very best innovative designs and ideas fromDenmark.

“Having so many Danish businesses attending this special day and networking together has been a truly inspirational moment,” said Christine Hartshorne, Marketing Manager of The Møller Centre. “The day showcased some of the very best innovative designs and ideas from Denmark. We were delighted that so many people came and sponsored this event, as we appreciated that many delegates have travelled a long way to be in Cambridge– a hub of innovation. The Møller Centre gave a flavour of what it can offer Danish businesses to support their growth ambitions within a unique and vibrant community.”
