Universiti Malaysia Pahang enhances its academic programme with AVEVA

Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia – 11 March 2013 AVEVA announced today that the Universiti Malaysia Pahang (UMP) has increased its investment in AVEVA PDMS. As part of its course entitled ‘AVEVA PDMS Operator Training’, students will develop better skills and understanding of design and engineering tasks such as the layout of a plant, clash checking and the compilation of materials for construction.

The software will greatly enhance the University’s academic programme by providing students with an educational experience that is relevant to the industry and will help them to stand out in a competitive job market.

“AVEVA PDMS was first incorporated into UMP’s courses in 2010 and has since been used in various undergraduate research projects, becoming one of the capstone subjects in the Chemical Engineering curriculum,” said Dr.-Ing M. Rizza Othman, Lecturer, Department of Chemical Engineering, UMP. “Our programmes are designed to serve the needs of industry, and plant design is a very important and interesting subject. The faculty plans to extend the use of AVEVA PDMS both within and outside the curriculum. Giving students exposure to the right industry tools and supporting them with a strong engineering foundation is UMP’s passion.”

“With over 45 years of experience in the industry, we have established a market-leading position in plant design and engineering,” said Rozita Mohd Nor, Senior Vice President - SEA and Australasia, AVEVA.  “By incorporating AVEVA PDMS, the world’s leading 3D design software, into its academic programme UMP is contributing towards the professional development of highly skilled engineers within Malaysia. It gives us great satisfaction to support this programme and we would like to thank UMP for making AVEVA software a key part of its faculty’s resources.”

AVEVA PDMS has previously been used at UMP on a student project assignment to design a 3D model of a plant from a 2D piping and instrumentation diagram (P&ID) after completing five days of training with AVEVA’s professional trainers. This proved a very successful exercise and students were able to use their projects as examples when applying for jobs following graduation.

Universiti Malaysia Pahang was established on February 16, 2002 and was formerly known as Kolej Universiti Kejuruteraan dan Teknologi Malaysia (KUKTEM) specialising in providing high-quality education and research in engineering and technology. The training facility at the Faculty of Chemical and Natural Resources Engineering (FKKSA) houses the latest hardware technology for computer-aided design (CAD) related projects and assignments.

The AVEVA Academic Initiative benefits educational institutions, their students, employers, and the global engineering economy. AVEVA's educational partners range from local vocational training centres to the world’s most prestigious postgraduate universities. Common to all is a dedication to developing engineering skills that can be applied directly in the plant or maritime industries. To learn more visit www.aveva.com/academic
