Marshall celebrates success of apprentices

Marshall of Cambridge is celebrating the success of its own apprentices over 93 years of continuous apprentice training, at an event being held during National Apprentice Week.

Marshall began its apprenticeship training in 1920 for its Motor Business and has continued to train apprentices across the Group of Companies on an unbroken basis ever since., with Marshall being the first company to train ‘modern apprentices’ for the Aerospace Industry.

An event will take place in the Company's conference rooms tomorrow (14th March).  A number of former apprentices, together with the entire present intake of trainees, will gather to listen to motivational talks from Senior Company Employees, who themselves started as apprentices.  These include Frank Butterfill the Director responsible for the Hercules Integrated Operational Support contract and Tim Gooch who heads up Marshall Aerospace and Defence Group’s quality organisation. Chief Executive Officer, Mr Robert Marshall, who will also be addressing the event, said:

“Marshall of Cambridge is enormously proud of its training heritage, which has been at the heart of our success for 103 years.  The breadth and depth of the skills of our apprentices are vital to the Company for its work in Defence, Aerospace and Motor Industries in the UK and around the world.  Our skilled people are extremely important for our Company, our customers and the local economy.”

Minister of Skills and local Member of Parliament for West Suffolk, Matthew Hancock had hoped to attend this event, but in his place has sent a video message of encouragement.  Matthew Hancock MP said:  “I am delighted to play this very small part in the celebrations of a fantastic legacy of training within the Marshall Aerospace and Defence Group Apprenticeship Scheme and to record my personal admiration for the level of commitment to training, which has been provided by the Marshall Family over four generations.  I congratulate you all and wish you every success for the future.”
