Wing website goes live to detail development plans

A website (wingcambridge.co.uk) for the exciting development of Marshall-owned land north of the Newmarket Road in Cambridge is now live.

Emma Fletcher, Property Director, said: “In addition to providing local people with a wealth of useful information about Marshall and its plans for the development of land north of the Newmarket Road, importantly this website will be the portal for all planning matters in connection with the development of this land.”

Emma added: “It will also enable members of the local communities to provide us with their thoughts and ideas about this development.”

Robert Marshall, Chief Executive of Marshall of Cambridge said:  “I am extremely excited by Wing and am delighted by the very helpful inputs and suggestions we have already received following our very successful ‘Planning by Design’ event, which was held earlier in the year.

"We are working very closely with both the City Council and South Cambridgeshire District Council, as well as with a wide variety of relevant local organisations and all of us are committed to ensuring that this exceptional development will be of lasting value to the Company, the Community and to Cambridge.

About Wing

The 180 acre site lies to the north of the Newmarket Road, opposite the Airport and includes the existing Park and Ride Site.  It is designated in the 2008 East Cambridgeshire Action Plan for major residential and mixed use development.  The Master Plan is expected to include between 1200 and 1300 homes, a primary school, local shops and extensive employment space focussed on Marshall’s motor businesses and other engineering industries.  There will also be a wide variety of open spaces, including urban squares, parks, woodlands and sports fields.

Using its ‘Enquiry by Design’ process The Prince’s Foundation facilitated a three day series of community planning workshops earlier in January, which allowed key stakeholders to have their say in the process and to share valuable information which will contribute towards the final proposals.  These workshops attracted over 1100 people, including local authority members and officers, community leaders, Marshall employees and neighbouring residents.  The feedback received during this process was consolidated into a background planning document, which is available for viewing on the website.

Pollard Thomas Edwards Architects (PTEa), which specialises in the creation of new neighbourhoods and revitalisation of old ones, has been selected by Marshall as the principal architect for the design of the development, which will be submitted to South Cambs District Council sometime in the autumn, following the next public consultation.
