Independent Cambridge: stylish shoes

Cambridge boasts a fantastic range of independent traders, but many residents - let alone visitors - are unaware of what's available right on our doorstep. The publishers of Independent Cambridge, a book which celebrates these businesses, highlight a selection of these 'indies' here. This week, ahead of a charity Fashion Show that features their range, Modish Shoes.

It would be hard not to be tempted by the window display alone, but step inside the door of 3 Green Street and it’s instantly obvious why Modish has been recommended by The Guardian as one of the top 100 shoe shops in the UK.

Once you browse the shelves you will discover an incredible range of shoes to suit most budgets but without compromising style or quality. Sarah Decent, the owner of Modish, has travelled extensively to find that perfect mix of popular brands combined with up and coming new talent. So whilst Fly London, Geox, Ruby + Ed, and Vagabond are always firm favourites at Modish, they also offer a great range of little known designers so there’s always something a little bit different from what’s offered by the usual high street chains.

This is also reflected in her approach to customer service – Sarah is truly knowledgeable and genuinely believes in only selling good quality, stylish products.

But Modish isn’t just about great looking footwear. Because fortunately for the women of Cambridge, Sarah’s feet are a sample size 4 – which means she personally tries on everything she buys for the shop. If it’s not comfortable, it doesn’t make it onto the shelves at Modish, no matter how gorgeous it is.
