Innomech appoints Peter Woods to lead medical device manufacturing division

GB Innomech has appointed Dr Peter Woods - an acknowledged expert in pharmaceutical automation and currently programme manager with the company - to take charge of one of its three business divisions: developing automated manufacturing systems for the assembly and test of medical devices.

In his new role, Peter will lead a multi-disciplinary team to design and build automation equipment for developers and manufacturers of products such as drug delivery pens, contact lenses, diagnostic kits and surgical instrumentation.  Innomech offers everything from feasibility studies through to large-scale system build and every system is developed in parallel with a detailed validation document package to enable fast and low cost regulatory compliance.  The company’s track record includes developing equipment for most of the world’s top pharmaceutical companies, as well as many early-stage technology businesses looking to bring first products to market.

“Peter is the perfect person to develop Innomech’s profile and sales in healthcare and also to consider opportunities in other sectors, such as food production and aerospace components that could benefit from our expertise in working to pharmaceutical industry standards.  He is also particularly skilled in system analysis and performance validation, which is vital in helping companies to avoid the costly and time-consuming manufacturing issues that can occur when developing new medical devices and equipment,” said Tim Mead, commercial director at Innomech.

Peter first joined Innomech in 2009 and has helped many global pharmaceutical and biotech companies to use automation to reduce costs, while driving up quality and productivity.  He has a PhD from University of Manchester and in 2008 was named as a member of one of the four finalist teams shortlisted for The MacRobert Award, from The Royal Academy of Engineering for his pioneering work on the Polar system for UK Biobank.

Innomech’s two other business streams are: advising on and developing advanced automated manufacturing equipment for sectors such as automotive, aerospace and cleantech; and offering contract manufacturing for high value, complex electromechanical products, including system installation and on-going product support where required.
