Build it! Science Centre gears up for summer fun

This summer the Cambridge Science Centre will be getting into gear with 'Build It!, a special programme of events and exhibits for all ages, looking at how to create fabulous machines and inventions. Come along to try out your design and building skills, get all robotic with electronics workshops and discover more about the great innovations and engineering projects happening here in Cambridge.

The Centre says: We will be introducing some new exhibits, so if you've visited already this year why not make a return trip and try your construction skills on our ball run and bridges? You can also find out how to make the most of your muscle power with our exhibits looking at pulleys and levers.

Our programme of events will include:

  • Paint Your Circuits - Discover how some special paint can help you make your own physical interactive electronic card.
  • Meet the Innovators - Want to know how to build great machines, gadgets and buildings? Well why not come along and meet local people who are doing just that. Each week we are going to be showcasing a local company or researcher who will be showing off and explaining some of their work.
  • Robo building - Each week we will be running special 'Build It!' workshops on robotics and engineering.
  • Stop! Thief! - Build a security system to protect the treasure! Can you engineer a switch to sound the alarm when burglars try to break in? Then try being the burglar... can your team make off with the jewels?

Workshops may incur a small fee for participation in addition to site admission. Check out our 'What's On!' page for schedule, booking and prices.

Updates will be happening throughout the summer so keep checking back to find out about our latest activities!

Chain Reaction 2013

All of these events and exhibits are part of the run-up to our annual Chain Reaction event. On Saturday 9th November 2013, come along to the Corn Exchange to see one crazy contraption after another being triggered off in a cascade of engineering and scientific prowess. On the Day the Naked Scientists will be performing their famous Crisp Packet Fireworks show. We will have activities for families, schools and even adults, so everyone can join in the fun. To find out more,  visit the main Chain Reaction 2013 webpage.
