Still time to grab an early bird place at Leadership and Hubris conference in September

Lord Owen, chairman of the Daedalus Trust, is looking forward to their Leadership & Hubris themed meeting in September being “not just a listening conference”.

At a conference on 19 September, jointly organised by the Daedalus Trust and Cambridge Judge Business School, attendees have the chance to discuss the business side of hubris. It’s a great opportunity for seniors figures in business and government, academics and others to learn from each other about the effects of power on decision making.

The early bird discount expires on 31 July, so book one of the limited places now!

In a video discussing his hopes for the event Lord Owen comments that business leaders should be concerned about hubris. The global economic crisis has provided plenty of examples of senior executives in banks acting in ways that’s totally against the interests of their company and their country. The real reason for this was that they got hubristic. He also points out that although the majority of senior execs don’t suffer from hubris there is a tendency for those in power to be vulnerable to acquire it. An excellent way to guard against says Lord Owen is mentoring; any potential hubristic tendencies in talented, young executive can be mentored away.

He’s looking forward in particular to the exchange of views between Gillian Tett of the FT and Martin Taylor ex-CEO of Barclays Bank;  with input from the Director of the Cambridge Judge Business School, Professor Christopher Loch, the perspectives of these three people in particular should prove valuable.
