ISO 9001 and 14001 re-certification awarded to Green Energy Options

geo reduces carbon footprint while demonstrating steadfast commitment to quality.

Green Energy Options (“geo”) is pleased to announce that it has achieved re-certification to ISO 9001 and ISO14001, the standards for quality management and environmental management, respectively.  Standards are widely recognised as making a significant contribution not only to the qualifying company and its customers, but to the general public and the wider economy as a whole.

The application for geo’s re-certification was led by Dr Paul Goodyer, Chief Operating Officer for geo. Paul worked together with Mark Thomson, Managing Director of the Eco-Smart Consultancy, to review the company’s internal processes and identify opportunities to improve quality, whilst reducing the company’s carbon footprint.  Significantly, geo was able to reduce its product packaging considerably, resulting in less weight and volume for shipping.

Furthermore, the company’s production processes were assessed and re-engineered, so that the company could afford to use sea instead of air freight.  Transport by sea can take five times longer than by air, but is generally seen as a more environmentally friendly way to move goods around the world.  Shipping goods therefore requires planning well in advance.

Importantly, the quality system put in place for the original ISO certification continues to generate data to support management decisions and is helping to deliver customer satisfaction, policy and management objectives and regulatory compliance, thus significantly reducing and minimising business risks.

Richard Tunnicliffe, Regional Director at the Confederation for British Industry (CBI), comments “I have seen geo grow and develop as an innovation-led company over the years.  They care a great deal about product quality, customer service and their impact on the environment, and therefore I am very pleased to see them achieve this well-deserved certification. Although based in Cambridge, UK, the company operates to the highest level of global standards, as do many Cambridgeshire companies who operate on the world stage”.
