Independent Cambridge: British icons and Cambridge images

The recently published second edition of the colourful and informative book, Independent Cambridge, celebrates the fantastic range of independent retailers we have on our doorstep. Read this week about Jacks on Trinity.

A colourful new addition in 2013 to the city centre is the aptly-named Jacks on Trinity. Bathed in a sea of red, white and blue, Jacks is an unabashed celebration of ‘Great Britishness’ through its traditional and nostalgic iconography.

The Union Jack adorns a huge range of items from T-shirts and sweatshirts through to bags, cushions, children’s toys and of course the British classics of teacups, tea towels and teapots. This focus on tradition and heritage extends to the Royal Family too – fancy owning a solar-powered Queen and Corgi set? Or venturing downstairs you can have your photograph taken with the famous family in the form of life-sized cardboard cut-outs!

As well as being home to the other great London icons such as red post boxes, Big Ben and Beefeaters, Jacks has a high quality range of souvenirs featuring and celebrating Cambridge too. So, if you are a visitor to the city or a local who feels proud of living in such a beautiful place, Jacks is where you will find just the gift to show your love of all things Cambridge.

All the merchandise has been chosen for its quality (sometimes lacking in some souvenir shops). Button badges, postcards and stationery items are at the lower end of the price range with beautiful leather bags and fine china at the other.

Owner Anne Bannell has also picked up on the Great British sense of humour with products like saucy seaside playing cards and snow globes complete with cycling students against a backdrop of King’s College Chapel – something every Cambridge home should have!
