The Energy Policy Research Group (EPRG), a joint research centre based at Cambridge Judge Business School and the Faculty of Economics at the University of Cambridge, recently received a donation from the Enel Foundation to support a two-year research project on Zero Subsidy Scenarios and International Natural Gas Markets.
The project will run from 1 October 2013 to 30 September 2015. The overall objective is to understand:
- the role of energy subsidies in the European electricity sector
- the role of natural gas in the European electricity generation mix under different energy market and policy scenarios.
Together, the two elements of the project combine to address the complex interactions between different stakeholders in the electricity, natural gas and carbon markets. The project is timely as the outputs will feed in to ongoing debates within the European Union over the fate of existing subsidy regimes and climate and energy objectives for 2030.
The expected output is publication in leading academic journals on the subject of energy economics, policy and management. During the project we also expect to contribute to the energy policy debate in major European capitals by publishing short policy briefs on the topics related to this research project as well as policy consultation papers where and when necessary.
The project is led by Dr David Reiner, Senior Lecturer in Technology Policy at Cambridge Judge Business School and Assistant Director of EPRG. Other project members are:
