Independent Cambridge: fashion for him and for her

The recently published second edition of the colourful and informative book, Independent Cambridge, celebrates the fantastic range of independent retailers we have on our doorstep. Read this week about fashion boutique, Petrus.

If you like your clothes to be design-led rather than necessarily label-led, and you appreciate a genuinely honest and personal approach to customer service, then you should pay Petrus on Bridge Street a visit.

The buying team of owners Petra and Steve Slack, and colleague Faye, is passionate about the use of textures, colours, design and form as well as the comfort and fit of the clothes they choose.

These passions are also reflected in the look and feel of the shop – funky retro-inspired lighting and minimalist fixtures are softened with classic original shop fittings and vintage pieces, all carefully designed and chosen to make visitors feel comfortable – something Petra and her team are particularly good at. In fact, sometimes customers have even bought some of the fixtures, so items in the shop are constantly changing.

A five year stay in Amsterdam for Petra and Steve before setting up Petrus (first in Saffron Walden and now the Cambridge shop), has definitely added a European flavour to their venture.

Brands stocked include quirky Dutch brands Sandwich, whose clothes and accessories for women use unusual and high quality fabrics to create a distinct look, and G Star with a range for both men and women. New, unique and unusual mens- and womenswear are chosen to reflect stylish and contemporary ranges that fit perfectly with the Petrus ethos.
