BNY Mellon goes beyond the Boat Race

Well-known as the title sponsor of the Cambridge v Oxford Boat Race, Investment Management company BNY Mellon wants to extend its support of students beyond sport and into the learning environment.

BNY Mellon is set to move beyond the river and into the classroom, partnering with Cambridge Judge Business School to offer scholarships on MBA and Master of Finance programmes.

The move also involves a ‘race’ element, however! Competitors for the scholarships will be asked to write on “How can leaders of financial institutions regain the public’s trust following the recent financial crisis?”

Chairman of the Cambridge Judge Business School Advisory Board Glenn Earle, who himself recently personally established the ‘Chairman’s Scholarships’ at CJBS, said: "The School is delighted to be partnering with BNY Mellon to enable two students a year to study for a Cambridge MBA or Master of Finance. We look forward to selecting, and welcoming, the first two young people to become BNY Mellon students at Cambridge Judge."

BNY Mellon’s International Head of Marketing and Corporate Affairs Jamie Brookes said: "We are very proud of our involvement with the iconic Boat Race – both the men’s and women’s races – and now we want to extend that involvement into the learning arena as well. We want to enable talented young people, who perhaps would not be able to consider a business education, to get access to some of the best programmes available anywhere in the world. We are looking forward to working with Cambridge Judge to make these opportunities available."

The competition for the BNY Mellon Scholarships opened on 27 January. The first two students are expected to begin their programmes in Autumn 2014.
