The product development firm’s employees piled on the pounds for the charity with initiatives including a monthly cake trolley, sales of bacon butties and regular raffles – with the company matching the cash raised by its staff.
“This donation is an immensely generous, and much appreciated, achievement,” said Evvy Edwards, fundraiser at Cambridge City Foodbank. “We are very grateful to everyone at Cambridge Consultants for this practical gesture of help for those in need in Cambridge.
“The people of this city have always been good at donating food – but this cash means we don’t have to worry this year about our overheads such as the rent for our small office and warehouse. We can concentrate on providing emergency help for people in need – those who have maybe lost their job or are in work but so badly paid they cannot afford to put food on the table, or those in fuel poverty. A third of those we help are children. There is a desperate need for our help – even in this wonderful city.”
The Cambridge City Foodbank collects and sorts food donated by individuals and groups to provide emergency short-term help for local people in times of crisis. Demand has doubled each year since the charity’s launch in 2010 – and it has now helped more than 5,500 people.
Each year employees at Cambridge Consultants choose a local ‘charity of the year’ to support. Louise James, head of the company’s charity committee, said: “The Cambridge City Foodbank provides a vital lifeline for local people in times of crisis. We are delighted to have raised this record amount for such a deserving cause and we had a lot of fun along the way – everyone really enjoyed getting involved in our charity initiatives. It is our way of putting something back into the community in which we live and work.”
