The first of these displays, Hidden Stories, will be at St Neots Museum and the Wisbech & Fenland Museum from now until February 25th.
The exhibitions are part of the Cambridgeshire County Council project, ‘Great War – Between the Lines’ and commemorate the centenary of the conflict.
Hidden Stories aims to highlight some of the less well-known tales of the Great War, including the 1912 army man oeuvres, the First Eastern General Hospital, refugees, war pigeons, the Death Wire and occupied Lille.

Project partners from across Northern France, Belgium and the UK have chosen six themes through which to explore their shared experience of the Great War. The themes chosen cover hidden stories, music, family, British troops in France, total war and military logistics.
Rebecca Morgan, Learning Services Manager at Cambridgeshire County Council, said: “Great War – Between the Lines aims to bring the history and experiences of the conflict up close to people across Cambridgeshire. This exhibition is just the first of a number local events and initiatives to commemorate the Great War centenary.”
County Councillor David Harty, Cambridgeshire County Council’s Cabinet Member for Education and Learning, added: “Nearly every family would have been affected by the Great War and it is important that people recognise the sacrifice made by the millions of people who took part.”
