Cambridge Judge Business School MBA scoops prestigious award

Nawaz Imam (MBA 2012) has won the 2013 Worshipful Company of Marketors Award for outstanding performance in marketing at the Master’s level. The award comes with a cash prize of £1,000.

Nawaz’s paper, entitled Zoom Car: At the Crossroads in India, looks at the set of choices faced by the founders of Zoom Car, India’s first car-sharing company, based in Bangalore. Zoom has been a runaway success and is growing fast but is also facing financing challenges in the process. The case study charts the history and development of Zoom and examines the decisions that the management faces as it decides how best to continue the company’s trajectory of growth.

Delighted at receiving the award, Nawaz said:

Without having studied at Cambridge, this opportunity would never have arisen. Zoom had part of its genesis in Cambridge and of course, Professor Jaideep Prabhu was instrumental in getting this case study off the ground. Cambridge and CJBS are places where the exploration and development of new ideas are actively encouraged.

Professor Jaideep Prabhu said:

It was a great pleasure to guide Nawaz in researching and writing the case for several reasons. First, the case features a Cambridge Judge Business School student, David Back, who was enrolled in the MBA before he decided to set up Zoom Car. Second, the car company is based in my home town of Bangalore, and it was great to see that the city is the location of choice for a breakthrough start up like Zoom. Third, it was a delight to work with Nawaz who has many wonderful traits: enthusiasm, energy, imagination and great writing skills.

This is the third consecutive win for Cambridge Judge Business School alumni. In 2013, Nanna Saito Nielsen (MBA 2011) and in 2012, Elena Ion (MBA 2010) were awarded the prize.

The Worshipful Company of Marketors (previously one of the old London guilds) is a modern livery company promoting excellence in marketing, research and innovation and offering scholarships and awards.
