LGBT Adoption and Fostering Week runs from 3 - 9 March. It aims to reach potential adoptive parents and Foster Carers with information about how to get involved and tells the stories of those who have adopted or fostered children. The week is organised by New Family Social, a national charity run by LGBT adopters and Foster Carers.
On behalf of the consortium of East Anglian adoption agencies, Cambridgeshire County Council has organised an information event on Tuesday 25 March from 4-8pm at The Ramparts suite, part of the Bailey Rooms in Cambridge. This will be a chance to find out about the children who need families, the process, and how adoption and fostering has changed the lives of other LGBT people. Tor Docherty, Director of New Family Social, said: “Some people are still put off by fears that they won’t be welcomed by agencies or local authorities, but things are changing. It’s clear to see how well children in LGBT families are doing, and what a positive and rewarding choice fostering and adoption can be.”
Mo Lacey-Eastwood, Joint chair LGBT Network for Cambridgeshire County Council Added: “We are delighted to be running an information evening in support of LGBT week. We look forward to meeting people who want to know more about fostering and adoption. We are proud to say that a number of agencies will be supporting us on the day to help engage and work with LGBT prospective families.
