Independent Cambridge - meat, bread and beer

The colourful and informative book, Independent Cambridge, celebrates the fantastic range of independent retailers we have on our doorstep. Read this week about Pint Shop, which specialises in meat, bread and beer.

As Independent Cambridge went to press towards the end of last year,  Pint Shop was in the process of being built, but in November 2013 this central independent opened its doors.

The focus is on great meat, bread and beer, with a good glug of gin thrown in for good measure. Diners can enjoy a weekly-changing menu with a heavy slant towards great meat. The restaurant uses three core cooking principles; spit-roasting, charcoal-grilling and slow-cooking and you can expect one from each on every menu. As well as hearty meat, there are lighter market fish and vegetarian options on offer.

The beautiful four-storey building on Peas Hill that they call home houses a traditional bar area with snacks and light lunch options and a more formal dining room.

On the bar you will find taps of British craft beers, a selection of whiskeys and 40 gins, including a specially distilled pea gin from Cambridge Distillery. Plus of course, a small wine list for those who prefer a glass to a pint.
