geo delivers results with smart, in-home water displays for consumers

Green Energy Options (geo) is pleased to announce the results of a year-long trial demonstrating how in-home water displays reduce consumption and costs to consumers and water companies. The Anglian Water trial used geo’s Ensemble Water, the world’s first colour in-home smart water display.

According to OFWAT, customer engagement, innovation and water efficiency should become increasingly important in the future. From 11,500 Anglian Water households using in-home smart displays, a representative sample of 422 customers was chosen from across a wide socio-economic range.  The trial measured an average decrease in water use of 3-4% using in-home displays, with the highest reductions at 8%. Some customers also volunteered customer feedback. If all of Anglian Water’s 1.3 million domestic households used geo’s display to achieve the efficiencies captured by the study, nearly 12 million litres of water would be saved daily in this one region alone.

The implications of these savings on a broader scale are considerable. Customers saving water also save on the 30% of domestic energy generally used to heat water. Paul Glass, Metering Change Manager at Anglian Water Services, adds: “

Not only can the IHD help customers to reduce their water bill, but their energy costs as well if they use less hot water. The environment benefits too, with less extraction, and less energy used for treatment, pumping and water recycling.”

Notably, these results were achieved without putting an additional burden on call centres.  Real-time data enables customers to feel in control, manage their consumption and act proactively in response to the live information and realistic forecasts provided by their in-home display.

The Ensemble Water has already won awards for green economy and product design. Accessible and convenient to use, the display provides real-time information, working with a smart meter to show consumers how much water is being used and how much money is being spent. geo’s display also alerts customers to water leaks, enabling immediate repairs to minimise costly damage.
