Mill Road’s alternative fish bar, (finalist in the BBC Radio 4 2011 Food and Farming Awards and Highly Commended in the Best Newcomer category at the UK National Fish & Chip Awards), certainly offers the fish lovers out there a large number of alternative ways to get their fish fix.
A traditional takeaway fish and chip shop, The Sea Tree also has a number of stylishly simple wooden tables for dining in-house, and a wet fish section.
Fresh fish deliveries arrive from Grimsby or direct from Billingsgate Market. Owner: David Farrell insists that suppliers provide written guarantees that the fish is from traceable and sustainable well-managed sources.
Fish is prepared – deep-fried, grilled or pan-fried – all cooked to order. You can also have your batter gluten-free. Alongside traditional fish such as cod, haddock and plaice, the regular menu carries delicious alternatives including fish stew, calamari, salmon, trout, bream, sea bass and fisherman’s pie, and other seasonal treats are offered, like grilled Cornish sardines, scallops and Shetland mussels. And just to add that little extra uniqueness, to accompany your fish is a range of home-made sauces.
As if that’s not enough choice, you can visit The Sea Tree for Sunday Brunch (April – Oct) from 11am till 2pm where grilled kippers, Eggs Benedict, kedgeree and Eggs Florentine are among the featured dishes.
