Independent Cambridge - look out for the big yellow clog!

The colourful and informative book, Independent Cambridge, celebrates the fantastic range of independent retailers we have on our doorstep. Read this week about The School Run Centre.

Just off main Mill Road is Hope Street Yard – a community in its own right, with a fantastic mix of independent traders – including the very unique and very colourful School Run Centre, also known as Cambridge Dutch Bikes.

The popularity of this European style of bike is evident throughout the streets of Cambridge. You will be hard-pressed to find a teenage girl (in  particular), who is not pedaling around on a Dutch bike – with the ubiquitous wicker basket on the front.

Also proving incredibly popular as well as practical amongst young families, are the wonderful child-carrying bikes and tricycles stocked by the School Run Centre. The different permutations on how to transport varying numbers of small children as well as the weekly shopping (and your pet dog) appear endless but all catered for. And as the Yard is traffic-free, you can test drive a Cargobike, mummybike, tandem or tricycle easily and in
safety.

As well as being kitted out for your ‘wheels’, you can satisfy your accessory cravings too. Baskets, matching panniers and child seats are all available to complete the look.

All of the bikes are imported directly from Holland, with brands including Azor, Bakfiets.nl Cargobike, Bakfiets.nl Cargotrike, BSP and Onderwater.
