The five young riders taking part in this year’s challenge have been provided with smartphones, preloaded with the ViewRanger app and Ordnance Survey maps, to help them stay on track - and for others to track their progress live - throughout the arduous 450-mile journey across England.
Now in its fourth year and having raised over £5m in total, the team is hoping to smash previous records with the best year of fundraising yet.
Craig Wareham, ViewRanger co-founder, said: “The Rickshaw Challenge is always a tough proposition for the young riders but using the ViewRanger app, the team will be able to see where they are at all times, how fast they are going and how far they've got to go.
“It will provide the riders with a real confidence boost when the going gets tough and I’m delighted to be able to support these courageous young people as they tackle the eight day ride.
“ViewRanger’s BuddyBeacon facility will provide location information to update the charity’s website, allowing supporters to follow the team’s progress in real time. Local supporters will also be able to see when the team will arrive in their area and be there in person to cheer them on.”
Supporters can follow the team’s progress online, via the BBC Children in Need website or pudsey.viewranger.com as they travel from the BBC’s Media City in Salford, near Manchester, to the finish in London on Friday 14 November. On this page they will also be able to read all the tweets and photos sent to the rickshawers, tagged to the route.

Text to Donate - Terms and Conditions
1. Text messages cost £5/£10, plus your standard network message charge (based on your service provider rates). This service can only be used from a UK mobile and does not include Channel Islands or Isle of Man mobile networks. If you donate using this service from a UK mobile abroad you may incur additional network charges. Donations can be made online all year round at bbc.co.uk/pudsey.
2. Your support will result in a £5/£10 donation to BBC Children in Need (a registered charity in England and Wales, number 802052 and in Scotland, number SC039557) for each text message you send.
3. Where calls to donate are associated with challenges, your donations are independent of the success or failure of the challenge.
4. The following mobile network operators have waived their charges in order to allow the full £5/£10 cost of the reply confirmation text message (described below) to go entirely to support BBC Children in Need: 3, O2, EE, Virgin, Vodafone. In addition, HM Treasury have confirmed that no VAT should be charged on these donations.
5. You can send a text message between 1900 on 15 October 2014 and 23.59 on 31 January 2015. Please ensure you spell the keyword correctly and send your text message to the correct number.
6. If your keyword and short code are valid and your text message is received within the specified times and dates, you will be charged £5/£10 via a reply confirmation text message and your donation will go to BBC Children in Need (with the exception of Vodafone customers, who will be charged £5/£10 directly via their bill). It may take some time for you to receive the confirmation text message. Please wait until you receive it. Each valid text you send will result in a charge of £5/£10 plus your standard network message charge, regardless of when you receive your confirmation text message. Any repeat texts will result in repeat donations.
7. If your keyword or short code is invalid, or if your message is received outside the times and dates of the service, you may not receive a confirmation text message but may still be charged your standard network message charge. You will not be charged the £5/£10 donation by BBC Children in Need as you will not be donating to the charity.
8. If you enter the keyword incorrectly, but your text message is sent to 70705/70710, you may still be charged £5/£10 via a confirmation text message, in which case your donation will still be made to BBC Children in Need.
9. If you send a text message outside of the promotion dates, you may still be charged £5/£10 via a confirmation text message, in which case your donation will still be made to BBC Children in Need.
10. You can donate by text to 70705 a maximum of 6 times each day from the same mobile telephone number (midnight to midnight). If you try to donate more than 6 times in a day using the same keyword from the same mobile, you will still be charged your standard network rate, but will not be charged £5 for a confirmation text message and will not be donating to BBC Children in Need.
