Soraya Jones steps down as CEO at Cambridge Wireless

Dr Soraya Jones has decided to step down as CEO at Cambridge Wireless, the leading not-for-profit, international community for companies involved in the research, development and application of wireless and mobile technologies.

During her eight years at CW, Jones has grown the organisation from 70 to over 400 members from all over the world, ranging from start-ups to global operators, device manufacturers and service providers. The number of Special Interest Groups (SIGs) has also risen from five to 19, driven by some 90 industry leading SIG champions; while the flagship CW International Future of Wireless Conference and Discovering Start-ups competition have become key events in the industry calendar. Most recently, Jones announced the first CW Technical Engineering Conference next March in London.

“Over the last eight years our dedicated management team along with the committed support of the CW board, has grown CW from a local network to a major international organisation that embraces every aspect of wireless technology and business and helps to shape the future of the industry,” said Soraya Jones. “It has been an exciting journey and I now feel that it is the right time to hand the baton on to someone else and explore new challenges and opportunities. I feel very proud of what has been achieved and I am confident that I leave CW in a strong position to build on its success and maintain its momentum.”

“We are very sorry to see Soraya leave CW but have nothing but gratitude and respect for the way she has transformed CW from an organisation struggling to survive into a vibrant and influential global community,” said David Cleevely CBE, Chair of CW.  “Rarely has ‘a hard act to follow’ been more justified and everyone at CW wishes Soraya all the best for the future.”

As an organisation, CW is committed to promoting innovation and bringing together a diverse set of technology companies through high quality networking and events. “Under Soraya’s leadership and with her unwavering enthusiasm and dedication, CW has played a major role in helping emerging companies like The Outside View to maximise our potential in the fast moving industry,” said Rob Symes, CEO of The Outside View. “We became a CW member as a start-up 4 years ago and the networking, knowledge sharing and access to expert advice has helped us to become a successful business.”

The search for a new CEO will start immediately and Dr Soraya Jones will stay on until a new appointment has been made to ensure a smooth handover and continued growth.
