Cambridge Building Society's Cash for the Community 2015: the results!

The 15 worthy beneficiaries of this year’s Cambridge Building Society Cash for the Community campaign were celebrated at a special event where it was announced how much of a share of £10,000 each would receive.

Cambridge Building Society once again teamed up with Cambridge News to run the campaign, which sees the amount of money donated to each group determined by how many tokens, printed in the paper, are collected by their supporters.

The celebration event took place at Emmanuel College in Cambridge last Monday (20 April) and the amounts were announced in reverse order to build the excitement levels.

Supporters of the groups collected a total of 13,347 tokens and each organisation received the following amounts:

  • East Anglian Air Ambulance £2,538 (3385 tokens)
  • Huntingdon, Peterborough and Cambridge MS Therapy Centre £1,143 (1524 tokens)
  • Cam Sight £1,118 (1491 tokens)
  • Romsey Mill £824 (1099 tokens)
  • Eddie's £622 (830 tokens)
  • The Wildlife Trust for Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire and Northampton £599 (799 tokens)
  • Carers Trust Cambridgeshire £519 (692 tokens)
  • CamTrust £477 (636 tokens)
  • South East Region of Dwarf Sports Association £405 (540 tokens)
  • Tom's Trust £404 (539 tokens)
  • Cambridge and Huntingdon Deaf Children's Society £383 (511 tokens)
  • Little Miracles £372 (497 tokens)
  • Home-Start Cambridgeshire £351 (468 tokens)
  • Friends of the Rosie £250 (201 tokens)
  • Pulse £250 (135 tokens)

The total amounts add up to slightly more than £10,000. This is because it was decided to top up the pot so that no group would take away less than £250.

Chief Executive Stephen Mitcham presented cheques to each group alongside Cambridge News editor Paul Brackley.

Stephen said: “Cash for the Community is always a highlight for us and a big part of our community programme.

“We really enjoy working with the Cambridge News on this because it’s lovely to be able to support such a variety of organisations that make a huge difference to the community.

“Monday’s presentation event was a great chance to celebrate these groups and find out more about what they do. Thanks to everyone who came along and to all the Cambridge News readers who took the time to collect tokens. Cash for the Community wouldn’t be possible without you.”
