AVEVA inspires the next generation of Korean ship designers

AVEVA Marine and AVEVA Bocad licences are to be used in over 20 academic institutions.

AVEVA announced today that AVEVA Marine and AVEVA Bocad software licences will be deployed in Korean Universities and schools to encourage the ongoing development of the local Marine industry. Students will be introduced to the ship design process through hands-on experience with essential engineering and design disciplines.

‘We welcome AVEVA’s support to bring critical job skills to our students’, said Professor TaeWan Kim, Seoul National University. ‘By working closely and training the professors and teachers on the software, AVEVA is enabling the university to give the students the best experience of industry-leading design software. AVEVA is truly inspiring the next generation of Korean ship designers’.  ‘At AVEVA we believe that we have a commitment to industry and the nurturing of new talent’, said SangWook Ham, Vice President, Head of EPC and Marine Sales, NEA, AVEVA. ‘AVEVA software licences were first installed in Korea in 2007 and the programme has expanded as part of our global Academic Initiative. In total, 19 different software product licenses from the AVEVA Marine portfolio and three AVEVA Bocad products will be used.  There will be up to 50 simultaneous users at each institution. These educational establishments have excellent reputations for their dedication to producing highly qualified talent for the shipbuilding industry in Korea and we are proud to be associated with such high quality institutions.’

Students will be able to use the software in classes including Computer Aided Ship Design, Ship Detailed Design & Modeling and Fabrication Technologies based on Ship Structures. There are over 20 academic institutions involved in this initiative including Seoul National University, Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST), Pohang University of Science and Technology, and Pusan National University.

The AVEVA Academic Initiative benefits educational institutions, their students, employers, and the global engineering community. AVEVA's educational partners range from local vocational training centres to the world’s most prestigious postgraduate universities. Common to all is a dedication to developing engineering skills that can be applied directly in the process plant, power and marine industries. To learn more visit www.aveva.com/academic.
