ViewRanger and Rother reach new heights with digital alpine guides

ViewRanger – the app for adventure – has confirmed more than 2,000 new Alpine and European walking route guides will be available through the app after establishing a new partnership with the renowned outdoor guide publisher, Bergverlag Rother.

Rother is one of the leading publishers of alpine as well as European guide books and this partnership will make some of the very best route guides more easily accessible digitally.

The first Rother guidebooks that are available immediately in digital form through the ViewRanger app include: Mallorca (70 routes), Gran Canaria (72 routes) and Eifel (70 routes) in western Germany.

Craig Wareham, ViewRanger co-founder, said: “Route guides from more than 25 Rother hiking guidebooks will become available in the coming weeks including trails suitable for a wide variety of people from families with young children to experienced hikers.

“ViewRanger users will be able to search for and download every individual route from each of the guide books as well as accessing the group of routes from each guidebook as a Route Collection.

All of ViewRanger’s app features, including active waypoint navigation and real-time location tracker, Buddy Beacon, can be used in any location. Once a Rother guide or Route Collection has been downloaded, ViewRanger can be used as normal to plan, navigate, record and share every adventure, complete with stats and photos.

Rita Lunghamer, Bergverlag Rother mobile products manager, said: “The route descriptions in every Rother guide are detailed, precise and dependable with books that cover all regions of the Alps, and many popular European holiday destinations.

“As ViewRanger offers such a wide range of mapping from the national mapping agencies across Europe, it is the perfect partner to make Rother’s European-wide route guides available digitally, on the best maps for outdoor enthusiasts and holiday makers.”
