Events focus on personal data and personalised medicine

A new era of personalised medicine is becoming a reality with the 100,000 Genomes Project in the UK and US President Obama last month announcing his precision medicine initiative. As personalised medicine comes into focus, so does the accompanying debate over the challenges and potential of big data.

In Cambridge, big data is a hot topic with tickets sold out for the PHG Foundation’s last two Life Sciences & Society Seminars to focus on this topic.

Places have filled in record time for the next seminar on 10 March at Hughes Hall, Cambridge, when Dr Jeff Skopek, Lecturer in Medical Law, Ethics and Policy at the University of Cambridge, will talk on ‘Personal data and personalised medicine’. Delegates will explore the challenges for law and ethics posed by developments in personal data and personalised medicine.

The series is run in partnership with Cambridge University Health Partners and Hughes Hall. Seminars continue throughout 2015. Moving away from big data the next seminar on 21 April is on - ‘Regulating the use of mitochondrial transfer’. All meetings take place at Hughes Hall from 17:30 followed by drinks and the opportunity for further informal discussion.

Join the reserve list for the free event on 10 March by emailing rebecca.burbidge@phgfoundation.org.
