Independent Cambridge - for foodies and flower-lovers

In a regular series of articles on this site, the Cambridge Network joins with Independent Cambridge to celebrate the fantastic range of independent retailers we have on our doorstep. Read this week about The Linton Kitchen and The Flower Boutique.

Well worth the trip out from town, The Linton Kitchen offers city-dwellers and locals alike, a little slice of something special. Set in the chocolate-box High Street of rural Linton in a former butcher’s shop, The Kitchen (owned by Gemma Whiting), stocks a wide range of local produce from independent suppliers and producers – using these to create daily sandwiches, lunch specials and scrumptious cakes, topped off with a cup of Cambridge’s finest Hot Numbers coffee. Open seven days a week, The Kitchen also has a great selection of lovely foodie gifts.

Not far from Gemma, in the same street, is another fantastic independent – The Flower Boutique. Belgian owner, Leen Van den Eede, started her career working as an apprentice at a floral event company based in the famous Waldorf Astoria Hotel in New York.

Armed with invaluable training and an ever-growing love for flowers, she moved to the UK, and realised her dream of opening her own shop in 2007. The Flower Boutique is a haven of floral beauty. Leen’s signature style is seasonal, natural and elegant – using only the freshest flowers and foliage shipped directly from the flower markets in Holland.
