Independent Cambridge - art for spring

In a regular series of articles on this site, the Cambridge Network joins with Independent Cambridge to celebrate the fantastic range of independent artisans, organisations, businesses and retailers we have on our doorstep. Read this week about a whole range of spring art exhibitions taking place at independents in and around the city.

Opening this Saturday (25 April) at The Over Gallery will be a stunning exhibtion of work by locally-based artist Julia Ball. Called simply 'Four Paintings', Julia's delicate use of layered colour creates subtle depths as she explores the nature of light through her paintings. Also tucked into the gallery will be sketches, notes and Julia's inspirations.

From 29 April to 5 May, Lynne Strover's lovely gallery in Fen Ditton will be exhibiting work from a hand-picked selection of artists. Visitors are encouraged to come and take a look at Emma Dunbar’s colourful creations, Rachel Budd’s swirling large-scale abstracts, powerful textured landscapes by Ann Armitage and new prints and paintings by the everpopular Rosemary Vanns. This will be one beautiful exhibition to see.

For more inspritation, there are some other exhibitions taking place around the city. From now until 1 May, Makers' Gallery in Hope St Yard will feature prints and ceramics by Katy McDonald. Also in the Mill Road area, Cheryl Warren's wonderful open studio is on until the end of April (by appointment only by phoning 01223 721705).

Over on King's Parade, Byard Art's 'Breath of Fresh Air' exhibtion is on from 23 April to 17 May. Finally, at CCA and CCC (Cambridge Contemporary Art in Trinity Street and Cambridge Contemporary Craft in Bene't Street),  it's all about artists inspired by birds for their current shows.
