Selling science? News, public relations and communicating scientific research

In the era of 140 character tweets and 500 word blogs, how can the scientific community successfully yet accurately engage journalists with the results of its research?

In this free seminar on 9 June, Dr Andy Williams will provide his expert insights into what works and what to avoid when conveying the complex - and often conflicting – stories science reveals.

Andy is a lecturer at Cardiff School of Journalism, Media and Cultural Studies where his research centres on news sources and the growing influence of public relations on the UK media, especially in relation to science and health news. This is the subject of his bestselling book, Flat Earth News.

This talk is one in a series of Life Sciences & Society seminars, run by PHG Foundation in partnership with Hughes Hall. The seminars are free although we do ask you to book in advance here. Discussion can continue with a glass of wine after the talk.
