Staff and partners at business advisory firm Deloitte have raised £1million for charity in just one month.
Deloitte staff raise £1 million in one month for charity
The money, which will be donated to the firm’s nominated charity partners, was raised from a series of events and activities, including the inaugural Deloitte Ride Across Britain from John O’Groats to Land’s End and the JP Morgan Chase Corporate Challenge in London.
Through these two events alone, Deloitte employees cycled and ran more than 100,000 miles – the equivalent of four laps of the earth.
Doing their bit in the fundraising feat was Deloitte Cambridge employees Alice Hawkes and Sam Pringle. The pair, who both work in the firm’s Entrepreneurial Business team, joined 100 other cyclists on the Ride Across Britain, raising more than £5,000 towards the total.
Alice said: “Taking part in the cycling challenge was a fantastic, albeit exhausting, experience. I feel proud to have played a part in helping the firm raise this incredible sum which will make a significant difference to the lives of people across the world.”
Richard Knights, office senior partner at Deloitte in Cambridge, said: “I’m extremely proud of Alice and Sam’s efforts and their contribution to the overall fundraising total. Raising £1million in just one month is a landmark achievement.
“This huge sum has been achieved through ambition, dedication and a relentless focus on the causes we care about. It’s more than just the money – it’s the personal time, the team support, the stretching personal challenges – that make it really special.
“Hopefully it will others across the firm to do even more in the future.”
The charities that will benefit from the fundraising include the British Paralympic Association; SportsAid; Help for Heroes; Children with Leukemia; Cancer Research UK; and The African Rainforest Trust.
Staff from Deloitte’s Cambridge office have also raised more than £750 for the Arthur Rank Hospice Charity. The money was raised at a staff event at Newmarket Races, which was attended by 150 people.
The Deloitte Cambridge office comprises 8 Partners and over 250 staff who deliver a full range of professional services to the East Anglian region. As well as focussing on the life sciences and technology sectors for which the region has become so renowned, the office has long standing specialisms in other sectors including the professions, consumer business, food and agribusiness.
