Turnstone submits planning application for mixed-use development in Chelmsford


Turnstone Estates has submitted a planning application to Chelmsford Borough Council for a 15m mixed-use development on Parkway, Chelmsford.

The 1.4 acre site will house an 80-bed hotel, 12 residential flats and approximately 26,000 sq ft of retail/restaurant space in units from 500 sq ft to 10,000 sq ft.

The scheme will also incorporateTurnstone Submits Planning Application for Mixed-Use Development in Chelmsford significant improvements to the local highway, with access rationalised and land made available for capacity enhancements to the Army & Navy roundabout.

Work on the scheme is anticipated to start towards the end of the year, with completion at the end of 2007.

Turnstone carried out extensive public consultation worked closely with Chelmsford Borough Council to determine plans for the site.

Chris Goldsmith, managing director of Turnstone Estates, comments: 'The site is in one of Chelmsford's most prominent positions, located on the Army & Navy roundabout, a major gateway to the town. We have worked closely with the local Council and nearby occupiers to create a suitable mix of uses and building form for the area. We are already in discussion with a budget hotel operator.'

Turnstone speculatively acquired the site in 2005 for 3.22m. Part of the site, which housed the Army & Navy pub, was purchased from Mitchells & Butler and an adjoining yard was purchased from timber merchants Gards.
