Drugs wholesaler and retailer Alliance UniChem has pledged to resume its UK expansion once the results of a Government review into the sector is known.
Alliance eyes return to expansion
The company slowed the growth of its UK operation, which features high street chemist Moss, while the Office of Fair Trading considers relaxing rules requiring chemists to have contracts from local health authorities.
The outcome is expected in mid-April but Alliance, which has more than 800 outlets in the UK, repeated it had nothing to fear.
It said the proximity of its stores to doctors' surgeries should help offset the pressure caused by possible new pharmacy openings in supermarkets.
Alliance added: 'When the Government decides on its course of action we will swiftly resume the expansion of our UK retail pharmacy chain.'
