WorldPay, the online payment processing company in Cambridge, has joined with software firm Roundpoint to provide mobile newspapers.

The Times, Daily Telegraph and The Independent have already signed up and daily editions are being transmitted to PDAs for readers on the move and unlikely to pass a news stand.

WorldPay's online subscription payment makes the whole thing viable for the newspaper publishers, and readers need enter their credit card details only once.

Kevin Salaman of Roundpoint says: "From both a customer satisfaction and an income opportunity perspective, the need to offer subscribers a high quality mobile newspaper edition can no longer be ignored by the major media players."

  • Broca Networks in Cambridge is working with call centre company Confero in London on the UK's first speech automated travel brochure request line.

    Sky Holidays is already using the new service, which is based on speech recognition technology.
